Sanibel is one of our family’s most favorite places, and the people are so wonderful. We were beyond sad watching the devastation left from Ian. AMI: nicer sand and water, easier to walk on the sand, more gulf-front restaurants, more true gulf-front condos, easier to explore off-island destinations. Sanibel: more tropical, shells, better food, better shopping, more island hopping available. Both destinations are/were vacation-worthy, but if I was able to choose, it would be Sanibel.
This is a beautiful Gulf beach. It stretches across a pass between Sanibel and Captiva islands that connects the ocean to an intracoastal waterway. During low tide you can easily walk from one side of the pass to the other. But always be careful with young kids because there can be a strong current.Always a surprise. Bowman’s Beach changes from hour to hour . From strong waves and few beach walkers to suddenly beach umbrellas and families and couples covering the sand. We are always surprised how fast the conditions and beach inhabitants change.We can always count on a beautiful sunset though. Its sister restaurant, Sanibel Grill, has been open for some time but many are excited that Timbers is back in operation. Sanibel has always been our favorite in Florida. We were supposed to go to Sanibel in November, so ended up going to Anna Maria Island for the first time. It was nice, we stayed at Cedar Cove Resort. He was a life long friend and long time bartender at the American Legion Post 123 on SacCap as well as The Keylime and Green Flash. My post was recently removed. This is a busy place but plenty of parking for a Friday afternoon. We only walked around for 45 minutes, so $5 for parking in a crushed gravel lot. There is a pier where you can view the Florida skyline and plenty of shelling to be had all along the beach.
