Geologist Education and Training Requirements. A bachelor’s degree is the minimum education requirement for a Geologist role. The bachelor’s degree should be in a related industry, including engineering, environmental science, mineralogy and earth science. Some Geologist positions will require a master’s degree.To qualify for the CPG exam, applicants must meet certain educational and experience requirements. Applicants must have completed at least 30 semester hours of college-level coursework in geology or earth science-related subjects; they must also have at least four years of full-time professional experience in geology or related fields.
